Amaravati: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has assured the state government that he would continue his handholding to Andhra Pradesh though he was holding the Constitutional post. The Vice-President said he would extend all possible cooperation to the state for its development.

The Andhra Pradesh government gave a rousing welcome to Venkaiah Naidu on the occasion of his first visit to his own state after his elevation as Vice-President. A welcome rally was conducted from Gannavaram airport to Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada on Saturday and felicitation programme was conducted in Velagapudi.

Replying to his felicitation, Venkaiah Naidu said people of the state were not happy to some extent as his elevation as Vice-President would render him helpless in extending support to the state as the Constitutional figure.

“I will not forget Telugu land and will continue my possible help to Andhra Pradesh,” he said, adding that “I am retired from politics but not tired.” Venkaiah said he did his best for the benefit of the state when injustice had been done to the state due to the bifurcation.

“I am instrumental in sanctioning around 5.35 lakh houses to the state and the Centre also given top priority to AP in the sanctioning of various institutions. But, it is due for the state,” he said. Venkaiah Naidu also advised Chief Ministers of both Telugu states to forget differences and concentrate on the development of states.

“It is not acceptable to take issues onto the street. Both the Chief Ministers should meet often to sort issues and make the states prosperous. Chandrababu Naidu had expressed his willingness and I also told the same to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao too.

The two Chief Ministers should be reciprocate with each other,” he said. Advising the Chief Minister to make Telugu as administrative language, Venkaiah Naidu thanked Chandrababu Naidu and the people for the reception accorded on him.

Governor ENL Narasimhan said Venkaiah Naidu is a disciplined person, able administrator and a good human being. “He made priceless efforts for the benefit of AP when the state was bifurcated,” he recalled.
