State to build 5 colonies for Polavaram oustees

The State government has released Rs 125 crores to construct five rehabilitation colonies to the oustees of Polavaram irrigation project.

Eluru: The State government has released Rs 125 crores to construct five rehabilitation colonies to the oustees of Polavaram irrigation project.

Disclosing this at a review meeting held at the Collectorate here on Saturday, Collector K Bhaskar said that these colonies would be constructed under relief and rehabilitation package (R and R package) sanctioned to the displaced people of Polavaram project. He directed the officials to complete the R and R package works on war-footing.

He also directed the housing board officials to complete the housing colonies construction to enable the displaced to join in those new houses soon. He said, “If the beneficiary comes up with his own house plan, the officials would construct it and the beneficiary should bear the additional amount.”

He directed the officials to discuss the matter with beneficiaries and collect their opinion within 15 days to start the construction works. He also directed them to take up underground drainage works in these colonies first and later take up the housing.

The Collector directed them to complete land acquisition works relating to Narsapur-Bhimavaram road extension works. He reiterated that no change in the alignment of roads once it was finalised. He directed the R and B officials to submit required information on the Malkapuram-Jalipudi-Chataparru road.
