Nandyal: Counting of votes for the byelection in Nandyal will be held on Monday amid tight security, heightening nail-baiting suspense in political circles. The counting will begin at 8am.

The police enforced section 144 of the Cr PC in the town during the counting in a bid to avoid any untoward incident. The police do not want to take any chance in the backdrop of the latest clash between the TDP and YSRCP groups.

Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetti said 5 striking forces, 3 special striking forces, 12 mobile parties, 21 pickets, one paramilitary CRPF company and 4 APSP platoons deployed in the town.

The counting process causes anxious moments for the people who betted with high stakes over the poll outcome from both sides of the TDP and the YSRCP. The betting fever spread up to the Godavari districts from the Rayalaseema region. The West Godavari district police on Sunday arrested two persons on the charge of their involvement in betting.
