Nellore: Nellore Rural MLA K Sridhar Reddy criticised the State government for assigning political duties to the police. He attended the investigation process as part of betting case on Sunday for the second time and answered the questions posed by the officials.

He said even though the police had not obtained any valid proof in the case, they questioned him. He wondered as to what the motive behind the process was. He also said he had submitted statements of bank accounts of his family members as a token of his innocence.

Meanwhile, City MLA P Anil Kumar Yadav has been informed that there would be no further investigation regarding the case who was skipped on Sunday from quizzing. Rural MLA attended for investigation at the DPO from 11 am to 12.30 in the afternoon. A team of officials led by ASP B Sarath Babu quizzed the legislator for around one-and-half hours.

After the investigation, MLA Sridhar Reddy interacted with media at the DPO and said that police had asked questions repeatedly during the investigation for the second time even though there were no substantial evidences.

“Police had asked whether I have any bank accounts in Bengaluru city or any other transactions with cricket bookies. I replied that I don’t have bank account anywhere except in Nellore”, said Sridhar Reddy. He also said that he cooperated with the probing team respecting feelings of people from rural constituency.

“I clearly understand that there has been political motive behind issuing notices to YSRC MLAs without any evidences,” alleged Sridhar Reddy. Coming down heavily on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the YSRCP MLA alleged that the CM had assigned a political agenda to the district police.

He also said that they won’t spare the situation if the government tries to harass leaders from the opposition filing fabricated cases against them. Though the district SP had earlier announced that there has been no involvement of legislators in the cricket betting case they served notices to them, said the legislator.

Rural MLA explained that he had spent more than Rs 1 crore from his honorarium for the welfare activities in the rural constituency. Sridhar Reddy warned that he would launch an agitation if the district police delegates political duties to the police instead of law and order.
