Visakhapatnam: For the first time in the State, Sri Varahalakshmi Nrusimha Swami Devasthanam of Simhachalam is constructing the longest concrete boundary wall guarding its huge extent of lands and hillocks located in the city connecting the Eastern Ghats. The Devasthanam is the first temple to construct a 35-KM long concrete boundary wall preventing encroachments.
The Simhachalam is having huge extent of lands and hills spread almost 35 percent of the total geographical area of the city. All the total lands spread among the five villages include Adavivaram, Cheemalapalli, Vepagunta, Purushottamapuram, Venkatapuram and about 25 long hills from Simhachalam to Old dairy farm in survey number 275. Over 85 percent of all the visible hillocks in the city belong to Simhachalam devasthanam only.
However, during in the rapid urbanisation in the past three decades, several residential colonies and houses came up on the Devasthanam lands. During 1987, the then TDP government regularised the land encroachments and it was halted by the YS Rajasekhara Reddy government. Still, several cases are pending in various courts.
Meanwhile, the state government banned all kinds of registrations under the jurisdiction of the Devasthanam. The Devasthanam has decided to protect the lands and hillocks which are under its control. After getting the State government’s nod, the Devasthanam started the construction of six feet concrete boundary wall covering hillocks and other plain lands at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
“Leaving aside the houses, colonies and other establishments, we are constructing the concrete boundary wall for prevention of the encroachments. Out of the 35-feet target, construction of a 27-KM long wall was completed so far. The rest of the land will expected to be completed by coming March.
The wall is being constructed almost parallel to the Giri Pradakshana route starting from the Tolipanchana-Tolipavancha via Adavivaram, Central Jail, Vepagunta, Setemmadhara, Madhavadhara, back side of NSTL Gopalapatnam, Prahladapuram and Simhachalam.
The construction of the wall is difficult at some places including hillocks and houses constructed on the hills and at some dangerous curves,” Executive Officer of Simhachalam Devasthanam K Ramachandra Mohan told The Hans India here on Monday.
In order to complete the work in a swift move, the wall is being constructed using concrete fabricated planks at some trouble prone areas and hillocks. Laying two pillars at each Eight feet and fixing the concrete planks in the pillars and in the plain areas traditional concrete wall is being laid.
