Vijayawada: Residents of Krishnalanka have been facing difficulties because of tardy pace of feeder road works. The feeder road is the only road that leads to highway and main road. The road is being used for parking of transport vehicles causing inconvenience to residents. Part of feeder road still pending and works were progressing at a snail’s pace.

“The feeder road is narrow road along the highway for 1.5 km long from arrival block of Pandit Nehru Bus Station and St Ann’s Hospital on the opposite side of the highway.

The road has many lanes connected to it to enter riverside localities. At present, the feeder road is linked at three places including post-office road and Bhramarambapuram. The burden of entire traffic is on the small road which is also encroached to make things worse. There are no traffic police deployed to control traffic jams here,” says K Giri, a student.

“Delays linked to highway expansion and feeder road are not new to us. About one lakh population of the locality had suffered for two years. They are still unsure when the works will complete. The expansion of highway and feeder road may take at least another two years,” said K Vijay, a resident of the area.

“It is very difficult to shift here. When rents were reduced sharply in this area following highway expansion, I shifted here. It was a horrible tale how the truck carrying my belongings reached the rented house overcoming hurdles everywhere. The traffic here is convenient only for light vehicles. If any heavy vehicle by mistake comes this way, there will be many traffic jams leave alone congested lanes that hardly accommodate a 10-tonne truck,” explains M Trinadh, a mechanic.

“We have lost many of our regular customers because of the highway expansion and feeder road. To help our customers to reach us, we arranged temporary stair case linking feeder road and highway,” said T Krishna, a trader.

“We are not sure how long will it take to construct railings on highway. But for the time being we can go to other side of highway using temporary ladders. We are crossing the highway to reach a hotel where we clean dishes,” said two women.
