Focus now shifts to the quaint city of Kakinada, which is going for polls today. Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) polls, which is happening after 7 long years has piqued the interest of many as the political parties are leaving no stone unturned to clinch the polls.

A total of 241 candidates are in fray which include 121 independents. While the Congress Party is contesting in just 17 divisions. YSRC is contesting in all the 48 divisions. Allies TDP and BJP agreed to a pact and contesting in 39 and 9 divisions respectively. Few TDP rebels filed nominations in all the divisions that are allotted to BJP and the party suspended 6 of them.
Six divisions fall in Kakinada Rural Constituency while the remaining divisions will fall in city Constituency.
BCs form 50 per cent of voters, 29 per cent Kapu community, 9 per cent SCs and other castes voters constitute 12 per cent. The average strength of each polling station is nearly 1,170 voters. 400 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and 196 polling stations are being used for this KMC Polls.
Out of 196 polling stations, 52 are recognised as sensitive and 28 polling stations as highly sensitive. A total of 1153 polling personnel are deployed. For peaceful and fair polling, police department deployed 6 special striking forces,6 striking forces and 13 route mobile teams.
