The Minister visited the TB dam in Karnataka 200 km from here to see for himself the precarious water levels in the TB dam and also to speak to the dam chief engineer Sankar Goud and impress on him for immediate release of water for drinking water purpose.

Explaining the magnitude of the drinking water and irrigation problems to the media here Sreenivas asked the Karnataka government and the Board members to release 10 tmcft of water on August 30. He said that water levels are at an all-time low in the history of the dam.

Normally, water is released in July itself after the onset of rains but this year the board met thrice but could not take any decision on the issue of water release due to poor water levels. As on today, the dam has 60 tmcft of water. The water travels 105 km to reach Bommanahal in the district.

The Board normally takes indents from AP and Telangana states and accordingly makes water allocation. Recently, District Collector Veera Pandian wrote to the Tungabhadra Board to take a decision positively to release water by August 30 after it's board meeting on August 29. He appealed to the board to release at least 1,000 cusecs of water if not 1,500 cusecs.

He mentioned that the municipal towns of Anantapur, Dharmavaram, Kadiri, Puttaparthi, Rayadurgam and Singanamala are under the grip of severe water shortage and these towns would land in dire-straits after August 30. Keeping the pleas of AP in view, the Board is expected to release 8 to 9 tmcft of water if not 10 tmcft as requested by the later. Kadiri MLA Chand Basha and TB dam superintendent engineer Sashi Bushan and HLC SE Seshagiri Rao were also present.
