After a long-drawn nail-biting suspense leading to high-staked bettings, the Telugu Desam Party has had a last laugh in the byelection in Nandyal. Its candidate Bhuma Bramhananda Reddy won over his YSRC rival Silpa Mohan Reddy with a huge margin of 27,466 votes.

Nandyal: After a long-drawn nail-biting suspense leading to high-staked bettings, the Telugu Desam Party has had a last laugh in the byelection in Nandyal. Its candidate Bhuma Bramhananda Reddy won over his YSRC rival Silpa Mohan Reddy with a huge margin of 27,466 votes.

The TDP maintained its sway almost throughout the counting, barring a couple of rounds. Of the total electorate of 2.19 lakh, 1.73 votes polled. Telugu Desam Party has secured 97,106 votes; YSR Congress 69,710 votes while Congress had to settle with 1,153. In the first round TDP was leading by 1,198.

When the 12th round of counting began, Silpa Mohan Reddy left the counting hall silently after coming to grips with the reality that his defeat was certain.
