‘Achieve target of planting one crore tree saplings’

Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana warned of serious action if the officials show negligence in supervising the planting of tree saplings. The Collector held a review meeting with the officials of the DRDA, Horticulture and APMIP at the Collectorate here on Tuesday. Addressing the officials, Satyanarayana said a target of planting 1 crore saplings was set in the rainy season.

He instructed the officials concerned to put in extra efforts for achieving the target. He added that the district has received sufficient rainfall. The Collector directed mandal-level officials to dig pits and geo-tag them. He stated that it is the responsibility of the officials to ensure the planted saplings are not dried up. Satyanarayana directed the officials of the Horticulture department to supply fruit variety saplings to farmers.

District Forest Officer (social forestry) Yashoda Bai said that they are ready to supply the required number of tree saplings as requested by the mandal level officials. “So far, we have supplied around 8.5 lakh saplings to various mandals,” she added.

DRDA Project Director Rama Krishna said that onus lies on the officials for achieving the target. APMIP Project Director Srinivasulu, DWMA Project Director Pulla Reddy, Horticulture Assistant Director Raghunatha Reddy and other officials participated in the meeting.
