Till August 28, normal rainfall was recorded for 19 days across the district is 7,033.3 mm but actual recorded rainfall for 28 days is 10,350.2 mm and excess is 3,317.1 mm. From June to August, normal rainfall in the district is 18,676.3 mm but actual rainfall is 23,656.8 mm and excess rainfall is 4,980 mm.
Out of total 38 mandals excess rainfall was recorded in 21 mandals Pathapatnam, Meliaputti, Kotturu, Hiramandal, Vangara, Palakonda, Saravakota, Veeragattam, Regidi, Polaki, L.N.Peta, Srikakulam, Gara, Burja, Palasa, Mandasa, Itchapuram, Kanchili, Sompeta, Tekkali and Nandigama.
Normal rainfall recorded in 13 mandals Kotabommali, Vajrapukotturu, Kaviti, Jalumuru, Amudalavalasa, Narasannapeta, Sarubujjili, Laveru, Ranastalam, Bhamini, Rajam, Sitampeta and
Santhakaviti, which is sufficient for kharif crops. Deficit rainfall is recorded in Ponduru, Santhabommali, G.Sigadam and Etcherla.
“Due to low pressure frequent rainfall recorded in 34 mandals and 90 per cent of cultivated area covered so far,” said Joint Director for Agriculture G Rama Rao. Total cultivated area in the district is 6,52,387.5 acres and as a result of sufficient rains more than 6 lakh acres was covered so far, he elaborated.
