Nellore: District Hospital Development Committee (HDC) Chairman Ch Narasimha Rao recommended to the hospital administration to serve notices to the staff, who are neglecting their duties. Rao paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Tuesday and inspected the Software for Assessment of Disabled for Access Rehabilitation and Empowerment (Sadarem) camp being organised by the hospital administration for providing certificates of disability to the physically challenged persons.

Speaking to the media persons, Narasimha Rao said that they had identified that the equipment in the hospital has been under repair for last five months. He also explained that they brought the issue to the District Collector some time ago. Subsequently, the Collector also sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for the equipment, he added. Further, Narasimha Rao visited in-patient blocks in the hospital and enquired the patients about the facilities being provided to them by the hospital staff. He also interacted with the physically challenged persons, who visited Sadarem camp on Tuesday. The Chairman observed majority challenged persons were returning to their places due to lack of equipment that confirms the disability in the hospital for examination.

“Though the District Collector had sanctioned funds but the hospital administration failed to purchase the machine either through tender process or some other means. Majority challenged persons are facing difficulties to get the tests done and are failing to get the certificates in time,” said Narasimha Rao. Hospital administrative staff also failed to sanction medical reimbursement bills to the employees on time, he alleged. The HDC chief also said that they had issued about 6,000 certificates and dispatched them to their respective mandals after formation of Hospital Development Committee. He also said that about 400 certificates are in pending in Nellore Municipal Corporation limits.

He urged the people to get their certificates from the corporation, who had applied earlier. “Though the doctors, nurses and other medical staff have been providing better services to the patients still there has been no change in the administrative staff, who are showing negligence in performing duties,” said Narasimha Rao. In-charge Medical Superintendent Dr Padmasree, Dr Kala Rani, Committee member B V Lakshmi and others were present.
