Visakhapatnam: Indian maritime sector has potential to be a leader in present world scenario, observed Director, Maritime Warfare Centre, Western Naval Command, Mumbai Commodore Srikant B Kesunu.

Addressing a programme organised by GITAM School of Law at GITAM University here on Tuesday, Srikant B Kesunu said that Indian Maritime sector was in third position in terms of workforce and the Indian Navy growth in last seven decades was remarkable. He briefed the history of Indian maritime sector and the present scenario.

Briefing the present-day challenges, he said that sea blindness, limited funding, more importance to land and continental affairs are a few constraints being faced by the sector. However, some positive things, including Sagaramala, would be a big support to strengthen the Indian maritime sector in coming years, he added.

Narrating about various people who contributed to the Indian navy growth and informed that the navy is now having self-sufficient technologies and strong knowledge both in hardware and software.

Director of GITAM School of Law Y Satyanarayana presided over the function.
