Sportspersons felicitated
Marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and the National Sports Day, the District Sports Authority, along with the District Olympic Association, felicitated the sportspersons at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday for bringing laurels to the district by performing well in the national and international events.
Visakhapatnam: Marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and the National Sports Day, the District Sports Authority, along with the District Olympic Association, felicitated the sportspersons at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday for bringing laurels to the district by performing well in the national and international events.
Speaking on the occasion, district Collector Pravin Kumar called upon the parents, teachers and educational institution managements to encourage students in sports as it would fetch them a good physical and mental health. He said the state and central governments were giving full support to sports by providing all infrastructure required.
Later, West Constituency MLA PGVR Naidu said that the government is taking measures to nurture national and international sportspersons. District Sports Development Officer June Galiot said competitions were organised in volleyball, kabaddi, hockey and other games. Winners of this meets were given prizes on the occasion.
Kakarla Syam Kumar in boxing, Nisha in basketball, M Sahitya Varshini and V Toshali, Gayatri in kabaddi, D Sai Raju in rowing, Aleema Begum in weightlifting and others were felicitated.
