Vijayawada: Jyothi Surekha, who received the Arjuna Award from President Ramnath Kovindh recently, was accorded a grand welcome at the Gannavaram Airport on Wednesday by K L University students, sports lovers, family members, friends and well-wishers. The 22-year-old archer from Vijayawada won the Arjuna Award at very early age and made Vijayawadians proud of her success. Narasapuram MP Gokaraju Gangaraju, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association vice-president K Pattabhi Ram, top officials of K L University and others welcomed Jyothi Surekha.

Jyothi Surekha learnt basics in Vijayawada and gradually grown as an international star with her outstanding performance in the field of archery. She is the first woman archer from South India to win Arjuna award.

Thrilled with the overwhelming response at Gannavaram Airport, Jyothy Surekha said she was delighted to see them all and thanked everyone who were present on the occasion. KLU Chancellor Koneru Satyanarayana, Vice-President Raja Harin, Vice-Chancellor Dr LSS Reddy and others felicitated her. Koneru Satyanarayana congratulating her said the girl is doing justice to both education and sports with excellent performance in both the fields.

Narasapur MP G Ganga Raju praised the success of Jyothy Surekha and added that she is the role model for youngsters. He suggested that the government should allot land for setting up an academy in future.
