National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 116.51 crore as loan assistance for NTR Jalasiri–Phase-II project under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund–23 (RIDF 23).

Amaravati: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 116.51 crore as loan assistance for NTR Jalasiri–Phase-II project under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund–23 (RIDF 23).

The project envisages drilling of 18,117 borewells in 12 districts in the State. A unique feature is installation of solar pump-sets for the wells for pumping of water. “With assured irrigation, the cropping intensity is expected to increase from present level of 150 to 200 per cent on an average. Upon completion of the project, an area of 27,000 hectares will be brought under irrigation,” said NABARD Assistant General Manager D Ravi Sankar.

The objective of the NTR Jalasiri programme is to provide adequate water for farm activities and achieve double digit growth in agriculture sector.

The best utilisation of groundwater resources, adoption of water intensive irrigation techniques like drip and sprinklers, increase of rural income by increasing agriculture productivity and improving of livelihood of rural people are the other objectives of the scheme.
