Visakhapatnam: Despite the Government of India inviting applications for attaining Diploma in Elementary Education course (D.EI.Ed) through National Institute of Open Schooling, only 44 in-service untrained teachers working in primary and upper primary schools in Andhra Pradesh have applied so far against the total count of 5,400 teachers, according to Andhra Pradesh Un-Aided Schools Managements Association (APUSMA).

Only 44 in-service untrained teachers working in primary and upper primary schools applied against the total number of 5,400 teachers

“There are number of untrained teachers working in private and a few government schools. On the other hand, there is demand for quality education which needs to be filled. To bridge this gap, the Central government has come up with D.El.Ed course,” said A Krishna Reddy, APUSMA state president.

It may be noted here that from April, 2019 onwards untrained teachers will not be allowed in private and government educational institutions as per the instructions of the central government. In this context, the APUSMA had requested the state government to extend the last date for registration to D.El.Ed upto September 6 as there was poor response from the untrained teachers so far. However, the government kept the last date as September 2 according to Krishna Reddy.

Apart from this, the organisation has put forward a slew of requests to the government including resolving problems pertaining to loading information as server is slow, giving chance to graduate in-service teachers of private schools to pursue D.El.Ed and allowing the untrained in - service teachers to register those whose names are not registered and entered in U-DISE list.

Finally, they requested that DEOs should be instructed to accept the application of the in - service teachers with the signature of the Institution Head even though their names are not included in the web list.
