Srisailam Project: Despite heavy rains, the Srisailam Project, described as a boon to two Telugu states, records poor inflows for want of release of water by projects in neighbouring Karnataka state.

Normally, there will be water in the reservoir upto the brim during August. To the contrary, the reservoir is almost empty. As against full storage capacity of 215 tmc ft, the water stored in the reservoir measures at 23.9630 tmc ft. As against full reservoir level of dam 885 ft, water level in the dam measures at 789ft.

Srisailam Dam Superintending Engineer Mallikarjuna Reddy said that the Almatti, Narayanapur and Jurala projects still have a shortfall of 10 tmc ft. As and when the shortage is made good, water from them will be discharged into the Srisailam project.
Quoting a Central Water Commission report, he said the Srisailam is expected to receive flood water up to 20-25 tmc ft within a week. The total quantity of water in the dam would increase to 50 tmc ft within a week.
