Nellore MP and YSR Congress senior leader Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy categorically said party chief Jaganmohan Reddy announced the elections were a referendum thinking that the government would conduct free and fair polls. But, contrary to his predictions, the state government had resorted to many irregularities and still they are describing it as ‘referendum’, he said.

He addressed at Nellore rural constituency Navaratnala sabha on Thursday and said Nandyal by-poll witnessed huge misuse of power and dispersing of money to the voters for winning the seat and said it was not done on democratic lines. YSR congress MP said they were not real elections and the same trend of irregularities would continue in all constituencies across the state in the coming polls. He accused that ruling party lured YSR Congress party leaders and agents in Nandyal for winning the poll. He appealed to the YSR Congress leaders and workers not to get discouraged with the defeat at Nandyal.
He also said the state government had assured to waive Rs. 87,000 crore of agriculture loans and finally waived only Rs. 11,000 crore. The same was the situation of loan waiver for women groups, he said. The Chief Minister has been telling lies regularly thinking that people would believe them at least after sometime, the MP criticised.
Further, interacting with the media persons, he stated that he would not join the BJP as was being speculated in the social media. He interacted with the media on Thursday and said he had never tried to join the ruling BJP.
“There are strong rumours in social media that I am going to join the BJP. These are mere speculations. I don’t have any such plans to shift my loyalties to any other party,” said the MP.Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy said the ruling party is trying to fix him in the betting case somehow.
