A tough task for Chandrababu Naidu
After a thumping win in Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections, the Telugu Desam Party will have a tough task ahead to accomplish.
Kakinada: After a thumping win in Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections, the Telugu Desam Party will have a tough task ahead to accomplish.
The selection of a candidate for the post will be an uphill task for TDP chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as there are four women winners competing for the post of Mayor and all of them belonging to the Kapu community.
In KMC elections, the TDP contested 39 divisions and shared 9 divisions with its ally BJP. The TDP alone won in 32 divisions and with the strength of the BJP, the number has raised to 35. If the three rebels who won in the KMC elections also joined the party the figure will rise to 38. The TDP achieved the magic figure to form the civic body on its own.
Earlier, the TDP announced that it would allot the Mayor’s seat to a Kapu woman if they won in the elections. All the women who are expecting to be the next Mayor won this election and thereby making the selection procedure a bit tough for the high command of the TDP.
All the four women corporators are expecting the Mayor’s seat. The have already engaged in their efforts to occupy the seat. They are trying their best to propitiate the TDP elders and seniors to finalize their berth. Sources said that Sunkara Pavani who won from the 28th division is a fore runner.
Sunkara Siva Prasanna from the 40th division, Adduri Lakshmi from 8th division and Makineedi Seshu Kumari who won with just a mere 20 votes from the 38th division are the other competitors.
Sources said City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao is in favour of Adduri Lakshmi, who is an advocate by profession. Sunkara Siva Prasanna has the support of a minister, while Makineedi Seshu Kumari who is serving the party for many years is also expecting the chair. She has the blessings of a senior TDP leader.
