Collector opens helmet awareness rally

Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector B Lakshmikantam on Friday flagged off a bike rally to create awareness on wearing helmets to avoid accidents.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kanti Rana Tata and District Transport Officer Meera Prasad, the collector flagged off the rally at Collector’s camp office. The rally will cover Benz Circle and other parts of the city. The Collector wore the helmet and rode Enfield along with officials who also sported helmets.

The first-day of helmet making mandatory passes off without any penalties. According to norms announced by the traffic officials, those found not wearing helmet will be penalised with Rs 100 fine.
