Affection on a male child led to the murder of an innocent widow in Timmanagudem village of Denduluru mandal in West Godavari district. The police resolved the mystery behind the murder that took place on July 1 and arrested the accused on Friday at Madepalli village in Eluru rural mandal.

Disclosing the facts on Friday evening in rural police station, Eluru DSP G Venkateswara Rao said that the body of 28-year-old Samrajyam Ramalakshmi of Timmanagudem village was found on the railway tracks near Ashram Hospital on July 1 this year and the Railway police registered a case of suspicious death under Section 174. Stating it to be a murder, the railway police transferred the case to Eluru rural police after 23 days of the incident.
Eluru rural CI Adapa Naga Murali and his personnel started investigation in this case. Manju Durga Prasad who recently started working as Community Policing officer (CPO) in Eluru Rural police station informed to the CI that it was Ramalakshmi. The police who started the investigation kept tab on Durga Prasad who first saw the body.
According to CI, Ramalakshmi had a son and her husband died long ago Manju Durga Prasad, who is a son of her husband’s sister used to visit her house several times showing much affection and attachment on the boy. One day, he took away the boy with him and never brought him back. Ramalakshmi asked Durgaprasad to bring back her son many times but in vain.
Durga Prasad hatched a plan to eliminate Ramalakshmi as she was trying to detach the boy from him. He went to her house on June 30 and took her with him saying that the boy was crying for her mother. After reaching Ashram Hospital in the midnight, Durga Prasad beat her to death and threw her dead body on the railway track. During interrogation, Durga Prasad confessed to the police about the murder.
The police nabbed him at Madepalli village on Friday evening, the DSP said. During interrogation, the accused said that he committed the murder with an affection for the boy. DSP appreciated the Rural CI Nagamurali and his team for nabbing the culprit within two months after the incident. Eluru rural SI Subhash and others were present at the meeting.
