A former journalist from Vijayawada contorted a murder drama on himself in order extort money from his relative.

The police informed that Shyam Kumar runs an evening daily in association with his relative Devasetty Subba Rao who took a loan of Rs 20 lakh from a bank on the surety of Shyam Kumar's property.

However, when Rao failed to repay the loan, a notice was issued to Shyam that his property would be seized. He promised the bank officials to repay Rs 15 lakh.

Upset with his relative, Shyam hatched a plan to involve Rao in a murder case and asked his friends to attack him. A seven-person gang was made to execute the plan to extort Rs 2 lakh from Rao.

On August 20, Shyam was attacked by the gang and was stabbed according to the plan. Shyam, who was shifted to a hospital called Rao's son in US and demanded Rs 40 lakh for not booking a case against his father.

In his complaint to the police, Shyam said that Subba Rao had attempted to kill him with the help of goons. The police, meanwhile found his statements incoherent and unconvincing. On questioning further, Shyam confessed to the entire plan and was arrested along with his two friends. The police are looking to nab the seven-member gang.
