Visakhapatnam: As a representative of Jal Biradari, started by Waterman of India Dr Rajendra Singh, Bolisetty Satyanarayana urged Isha Foundation founder Sadguru Jaggivasudev, who will be visiting Amaravati on September 13 as part of his ‘Rally for Rivers’ campaign, to ensure that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's house on the river bund of Krishna be moved away at least one km either side of the river and stop new constructions adjacent to his residence as they are illegal and affecting the river.

Speaking to the media in the city, Satyanarayana said seven river parliaments have been formed to protect the rivers in each state across the country during the National Water Convention for Drought-Free India organised by the Karnataka government last month led by Waterman of India Rajendra Singh. As part of it, Satyanarayana was tasked with the issues pertaining to Krishna river.

The state government has been violating the norms in every possible way to go ahead with the works without taking proper permissions, he alleged.

“Despite the untreated sewer water is getting mixed with Krishna river at Buddha statue in Amaravati, the government failed to take action. Due to legal and illegal sand mining which is happening at faster pace will have a devastating effect on the river Krishna,” he said.

“Despite state government and APCRDA giving declaration that they will not allow any constructions to take place for protection of floodplains, massive construction work has been undergoing adjacent to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s house on the banks of Krishna river,” he pointed out.
