Eluru: A 52-year-old police constable committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his house at Police lines at Yetigattu area in Eluru city on Friday.

According to police, Katumala Ananda Kumar, 51, a constable in Chagallu police station, was attached to perform duties on Road Safety Vehicle. He reached home and spent some time with his family members in the house till evening. Suddenly, he went into his room and hanged himself from the ceiling.

After some time, the family members found him hanging from the ceiling and immediately informed the matter to Three-town police. Three-town SI Pydiraju and his personnel reached the spot and brought the body down.

Ananda Kumar was 1990 batch constable. He worked in Armed Reserve Force for some time and was given option to shift to civil constable five years back.

He was posted at Eluru rural police station and was later transferred to Chagallu police station entrusting the duties of Road Safety Vehicle. He was survived by wife, two daughters and one son.

Eluru DSP Gogula Venkateswara Rao inspected the place and condoled the constable’s death. The body was sent for post-mortem to Eluru Government hospital. The cause of suicide is yet to be ascertained. Three- town police registered a case.
