President Kovind, who started his speech in Telugu by saying, “mee andarikee namaskaram”, recollected that during his recent visit to Vijayawada, he was impressed by its development. “Farmers from this region have contributed substantially to the rice production among other products. In adoption of technology for social development programmes AP is much ahead to the rest of India. AP’s IT and infrastructure companies are famous nationally and internationally,” he lauded.
He also praised the state saying that it was a land of great heroes and great history. “It had leaders like NT Rama Rao and PV Narasimha Rao. It has sent three Presidents – S Radha Krishnan, VV Giri and N Sanjeeva Reddy to the country. Now it has given an invaluable colleague M Venkaiah Naidu as Vice President,” he noted.
“Social and economic achievements in the past few years, mirror the transformation of India. Yet as we march forward, we must ensure that this is journey for all and not a journey for some,” Kovind underlined. President Kovind. He said, it is his second visit outside Delhi as President, as the first one was to meet the soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir.
The president claimed that he was satisfied with the visit as he laid the foundation stone for the Ambedkar Skill Training Academy (ASTA) which was planned as a modern marvel in Tirupati. “It is a world-class job oriented centre that will focus on youth from marginalized communities,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu termed President Kovind as an inspirational leader to the students after former President Abdul Kalam. Referring to the SPMCW Hospital, he said that the aim of the government was to make as a medical hub. Governor ESL Narasimhan said that the President was the voice of poor. “When asked about his new responsibilities, the President said, only the responsibilities are changed, but he has not changed. That is his simplicity,” the Governor maintained.
Earlier, the state government gave the President Kovind a civic reception. TTD’s priests blessed him with Vedic hymns. The president also laid the foundation stone for ASTA to be established in Tirupati with Rs.25 crores. He also distributed sanction letters to Bhagyamma and Salamma under Start Up India scheme.
Similarly, the sanction letters were given to Tangamani and Rosewell under land purchase scheme of the government in which 94 beneficiaries will get 148 acres worth Rs.90 crores.
Ministers K Atchannaidu, N Amarnath Reddy, N Lokesh and others were also present. Later, at Shilparamam the government hosted the President a ‘State Dinner’ for which 150 dignitaries attended.
