Vijayawada: In order to build self-confidence among women and encourage them possess driving licence, helmet and insurance, the Inner Wheel Club of Vijayawada and Top Gear will organise a scooter rally for women at Siddhartha Academy here on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Rashmi, president of the club, said that the event was planned to celebrate the Golden Jubilee year of the club.

She said it was observed during accidents many die without a helmet. “We also observed that we are helpless as most of the women say they have learner’s licence which is valid for only three months. We wish women should own a vehicle and have their licence, insurance, along with helmet. We invited 80 colleges to participate in the event. Mahila Mitra members will also participate,” she added.

Top Gear convener Vijayasri Gupta said they would give moral support to the enthusiastic women who want to drive vehicle. “Invest on vehicle. It is necessity. Joint Transport Commissioner Ramasri will also grace the occasion. We are offering prizes for driving skills of women, including washing machines, wet grinders and electric rice cooker,” she added.

The programme will be held in association with Mahila Mithra, Vijayawada city police, Vasavya Mahila Mandali and Axis Bank.
