Tirupati: President Ram Nath Kovind received a warm welcome on his arrival at the Tirupati International Airport on his maiden visit to the State after assuming office.

Governor E S L Narsimhan, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, other Ministers and officials received him at the airport on Friday afternoon.

From the airport the President proceeded to Goddess Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanur. TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal, JEO P Bhaskar and temple archakas welcomed him with Poorna Kumbham.

Later, the President inaugurated a 700-bed hospital building constructed at a cost of Rs 139 crore at Sri Padmavathi Medical College (SVIMS) and visited various hospital departments. The building has seven floors. SVIMS Director T S Ravikumar and MBBS students extended a warm welcome to the President. The patients also greeted the President.

Ravikumar briefly explained to the President about the hospital activities and available services to patients. The police provided unprecedented security for the President’s visit. About 2,000 armed police personnel were deployed on duty.
