Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly Dr Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday visited the 7th century AD rock cut caves at Mustabad in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district. Dr Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, The Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati, and local villagers explained the importance of rock cut cave to the Deputy speaker.

Vijayawada: Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly Dr Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday visited the 7th century AD rock cut caves at Mustabad in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district. Dr Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, The Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati, and local villagers explained the importance of rock cut cave to the Deputy speaker.

The cave contains the sculptures of Jay, Vijaya and Vishnu- Trivikrama carved on the walls of the rock-cut caves. Sivanagi Reddy suggested that the department of archaeology and museums to take measures to protect the seventh century cave as huge peepal tree has grown and it may damage the structure of the cave.

He said the department can declare the cave as protected monument and can take steps to protect it. Andhra Arts Academy secretary Golla Narayana Rao and others accompanied the Deputy Speaker. Local villagers Medasani Srinivas, Veerapaneni Prabhakar and Mechineni Prasad explained how the historical cave was neglected by the government and urged the Deputy Speaker to develop it as a tourist centre.
