Vijayawada: Immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh reached the final stage in Vijayawada on Sunday as scores of idols were immersed at the apron downstream of Prakasam barrage in Krishna river.

The immersion is going on for the last five days and increased on Saturday and Sunday. Being Sunday holiday, a large number of idols have been shifted from Pandals brought to the river in procession on tractors, goods carrier autos etc. Slogans were raised Jai Bolo Ganesh Maharaj Ki during the procession.

Irrigation and police department officials have made arrangements with four cranes near the Prakasam barrage for immersion. The vehicles moved through the ramp and reached the apron conveniently where immersion took place. Special lighting arrangement was made to prevent any untoward incident during the night.

On the otherhand, immersion continued other side of the Krishna river at Tadepalli. Devotees of Guntur district immersed the idols near Seetanagaram. On the tenth Day, the organizers have arranged free meals at the pandals. Police, fire and municipal departments issued permission for setting up of Pandals in the city and local organising committees have made arrangements for the prayers.

The 75 feet eco friendly clay earth idol installed at Gymkhana grounds was immersed at the same venue with pouring of water on it. To create awareness on the clay idols, the organizers installed the 75 feet idol in Gandhi Nagar. Thousands of devotees visited the ground and offered prayers for the last one week. By and large, the Ganesh chaturdi the nine day festivities came to end on Sunday peacefully without any major untoward incident in the city.
