The nine-day festival “Vinayaka Chavathi” came to an end with the immersion of Ganesh idols on Saturday in Kurnool-Cuddapah (KC) Canal. Amid thousands of spectators and devotees, the procession of idols started in a spectacular manner. The entire town reverberated with the chants of “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya”.

Kurnool: The nine-day festival “Vinayaka Chavathi” came to an end with the immersion of Ganesh idols on Saturday in Kurnool-Cuddapah (KC) Canal. Amid thousands of spectators and devotees, the procession of idols started in a spectacular manner. The entire town reverberated with the chants of “Ganapathi Bappa Moriya”.

The officials especially from the police department had breathed a sigh of relief after bringing down the curtains of the nine-day Ganesh festival in a peacefully manner. As many as 1,800 idols have been installed at various places in the city. Of the 1,800 idols, the Lord Ganesh idol at Rambotla temple received the first prayers from the heads of the town.

YSRCP MP Butta Renuka, Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy, Panyam MLA Gowru Cheritha Reddy, District Collector S Sathya Narayana and Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetti took part at puja programme. After the completion of puja under tight security, the Lord Ganesh idol was taken on a Shobha Yatra in the town.

The Shobha Yatra started from Rambotla Temple, located in the Old town, to Vinayaka Ghat for immersion followed by other idols. At Vinayaka Ghat, Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy along with Collector S Sathya Nrayana, SP Gopinath Jetti, BJP leader Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, MP Butta Renuka, MLAs SV Mohan Reddy and Gowru Cheritha Reddy received the Lord Ganesh of Rambotla and performed prayers before immersion.

Later the immersion of other idols started from 3 pm continued till late night as 1,800 idols must be immersed. On the other hand, the Muslims also offered prayers at mosques on Eid-Ul-Adha (Bakrid) on Saturday. As the Bakrid was also celebrated on the same day, the police deployed have additional forces to prevent untoward incidents.

Around 2,500 police personnel including special party teams were deployed for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during immersion of idols. The Vinayaka Sadhana Samithi Committee members have arranged cultural programmes at Vinayaka Ghat. The performances given by the students of various schools have enthralled the spectators and onlookers. Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy lauded the services of Vinayaka Sadana Samithi Committee members for the arrangements.
