According to sources in police department, ganja and gutka are easily available to the youth through habitual offenders who have contacts with inter-state gangs. During the first week of August, the police seized 1.2 kg of ganja from a rowdy-sheeter. Eight members of ganja and drug chain members were arrested for selling ganja. Many more offenders and ganga consuming persons were arrested during the same period under Nunna police station jurisdiction.

The city cops spotted 34 ganja batch members and arrested them at places such as Gadda Bomma Centre at One Town, Railway West Booking, Nehru Bomma Centre, Srinivas Mahal Centre, Chittinagar, Durga Ghat and Prakasam barrage during the special drive in the last week of July.

According official sources, about 300 members of ganja supply chain were arrested in and around the city during last few years.

An official of the police department said that the ganja was entering the state via Mumbai. The suppliers are located in border states and pumping ganja with ease. Even truck drivers and crew are also being used for transporting the sedative.

The city was being treated as an epicentre of ganja supplies to other cities in the state. A considerable number of college-going students were already addicted to ganja and gutka.

Parks and deserted places at Urmilanagar, New Rajarajeswaripet, water tank near Gandhiji High School, Jakkampudi Colony and other areas are known for ‘adda’ for ganja supply. Even drugs are being available at these places. The victims are youth as they act under the influence of the drugs and spoil their educational and career prospects.

Even the top cop of the state, during a press conference recently, informed that ganja transportation problem was severe in the state. Ambulances, oil tankers and other vehicles are being used for ganja transportation. He also pleaded with parents to be alert on drugs as they spoil entire generation. He also said that at borders drug transportation was not contained by the cops of other states.
