Kadapa: Political situation in the district seems to have taken interesting turn after the YSR Congress Party defeat in the recent Nandyal byelections and Kakinada municipal corporation elections on Saturday. According to sources, the TDP high command has intensified its efforts to attract 3 YSRCP MLAs --Raghunatha Reddy (Mydukuru), Amjad Basha (Kadapa town) and Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti) to join with TDP.

It is learnt that some TDP senior leaders in the district have already discussed the issue with the YSRCP MLAs by offering them good positions in the government if they joined with their party. However, it is learnt that there was no positive response received from trio as they were in dilemma over continuing in their party or quit from it.

It may be recalled that in 2014 elections, YSRCP had bagged 9 segments against 10 in the district and Kadapa MP seat with the TDP confined to Rajampet seat despite serious efforts.

After the 2014 general elections, YSRCP had secured Kadapa Zilla Parishad and some municipalities including Kadapa municipal corporation by continuing the same spirit.

However, the down fall has started to YSRCP with party Badwel MLA Jayaramulu joined with TDP in 2016 followed by senior leader and Jammalamadugu MLA C Aadinarayana Reddy and his brother MLC C Narayana Reddy, Congress MLC Changalrayudu and local body constituency elections leads to defeat of YSRCP MLC nominee YS Vivekananda Reddy.

A senior leader opined that defeat of YSRCP in Nandyal bypolls and Kakinada civic body elections would be a major setback to the party as there was possibility of some more party leaders and MLAs came to second thought over their continuing in the party.

“We need not surprise with anything might happen in YSR Congress as the leaders would give top priority for maintaining groups in Kadapa district. Migration of leaders in both TDP and YSRCP in 2004 proved its fact,” he said. Meanwhile YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy visiting the district for two days in September first week to discuss the future of party with MLAs and senior leaders.
