Visakhapatnam: As large number of families in the city are keen on having organic food served on their platter in view of growing health consciousness, Women in Society through Engagement (WISE), the newly formed women's wing of the Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), organised one-day organic farmers market at the parking lot in front of YMCA, the Beach Road, on Sunday. GVMC Commisioner M Hari Narayanan inaugurated the organic market.

Later, Collector Pravin Kumar, along with his wife, visited the market, which had display and sale of the natural produce, including pulses, cold pressed oils, spices, nuts, natural medicinal remedies, honey, coffee, all produced locally and naturally by the farmers in and around the city of Vizag.

In tune with Vizag's aim of becoming a Smart City, the ladies of WISE came up with their maiden event to bring healthy, affordable, naturally grown foods within the reach of the people. By bringing the farmers in direct contact of the consumers, WISE hopes to establish a long term, mutually beneficial relationship between the farmers and citizens of Vizag.

All the vegetable and fruits stalls were set up by Rythu Mitra, a registered trust with 13,300 members that supply organic and natural produce to stores in Andhra, Telangana and Bengaluru.

The charter members of WISE are Sonal Sarda, Kavita Khara, Vani Gannamani, Sandhya Godey, Jeeja Valsaraj, Padmaja Chelikani, Sapna Somani, Radhika Satish, Hema Yadavalli and Rekha Dutt.
