Visakhapatnam: The long-awaited project on the River Sarada at Narsapuram village in Kasimkota mandal was completed and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the anicut on September 6.

With the help of the anicut, irrigation water will be given to 3,480 acres. The then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone for the anicut. Though the civil works were completed about three years ago, the erection of the gates and other works were completed recently.

The Narsapuram anicut was constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore to bring 3,480 acres under cultivation. The irrigation department has taken up the anicut under Narasapuram and Jampapalem by interlinking the existing two channels.

The state government has taken up ‘Jala Siri Ki Harathi’, a three-day programme, in which all the water projects and bodies will be given harathi. As a part of the programme, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will start the programme by inaugurating the Narasapuram anicut. With this anicut, three villages are saved from the floods.

After the inaugurating the anicut, the Chief Minister would address a public meeting at AS Peta. An exhibition also arranged at the public meeting site to show the progress of Neeru-Pragathi, agriculture, irrigation and other departments, Collector Pravin Kumar said.
