Sitampeta Agency in Srikakulam district would be transformed into a hub of tourism in future. Sitampeta Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) officials are taking measures to conduct a five-day long tourism festival in the Agency from September 26 to mark the World Tourism Day on September 27.

Srikakulam: Sitampeta Agency in Srikakulam district would be transformed into a hub of tourism in future. Sitampeta Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) officials are taking measures to conduct a five-day long tourism festival in the Agency from September 26 to mark the World Tourism Day on September 27.

In all, seven tourism projects were proposed in the Agency at an estimated cost of Rs 3.83 crore with an aim to improving the area and to attract tourists. With the initiation of Sitampeta ITDA project officer Lotheti Shivasankar, seven tourism works were proposed in the Agency.

Two waterfalls are situated at Mettuguda and Sunnapugedda in the Agency, each would be developed with Rs 40 lakh and Rs 55 lakh respectively. For Mettuguda, funds would be provided by the tourism wing and for Sunnapugedda ITDA funds would be used. Viewpoint was proposed at Polla to see Agency picturesque locales with Rs 8 lakh and resorts also proposed here with another Rs 40 lakh, both the spots would be developed by ITDA funds.

A ‘Jalavihar’ and Tribal Museum were planned at Sitampeta ITDA headquarters with Rs 80 lakh and Rs one crore respectively. For Jalavihar, all line departments convergence funds were provided and for museum tourism wing allotted funds. A combo unit would be set up, which contains adventure tools, to promote adventure activities among youth and children at Sitampeta with Rs 50 lakh estimation. Youth and children can learn rock climbing, zorbing and para motoring activities at the combo unit.

For providing facilities at all the selected spots, approach roads, cement benches and drinking water facility were proposed. Open roof cabins also proposed here to provide temporary shelter to tourists during the summer and rainy season.
“Our aim is to conduct tourism festival to highlight the Agency locations to attract the tourists and improve the Agency area.” Sitampeta ITDA project officer Lotheti Shivasankar said.
