To put a check on the violation of road safety, the police department has introduced the e-challan system to penalise the violators. The E-Challan App was officially launched by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Gopinath Jetti at the Veda Vyas auditorium on Monday.

Later, addressing the media, Gopinath Jetti said that the motorists would be taken to task if they were found violating road safety norms. If a person was found riding rashly, speaking on cell phone, driving without helmet, driving on the wrong side, over speeding, drunken driving and riding with three persons would be penalised, the SP added.


Not only the persons who violated the road safety norms, the person who doesn’t show the records of the vehicle would also be served with an e-challan. A detailed report of the violator would appear in the App and accordingly, he would be served with the challan to pay the penalty. He would be immediately served with the slip of the penalty paid by the violator.

And if he is not paid, a legal notice would be sent to his house within a span of 15 days. A person would be given three chances to mend his ways and if he failed to do so, his driving license would be confiscated, he warned.

The Superintendent of Police said that fatal accidents were taking place for not wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. So, to protect themselves from head injuries and fatalities, he suggested the wearing of helmets.

He also advised the youth to be aware of traffic rules in force. He said he wanted to transform Kurnool as accident-free district and urged cooperation of the citizens. Earlier, Gopinath Jetti gave out a brief elaboration of the App, it usage, functioning and integration with the police personnel mobiles.
