Parchur/ Chirala: Every life on the earth was dependent on water and one should conserve it, said Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas. He participated in ‘Jala Siriki Harati’ programme at Jonnatali village in Martur mandal of Prakasam district on Wednesday and made the farmers and others promise that they utilise the water responsibly and conserve it for future.
The Health Minister offered pooja at Gangamma temple at Jonnatali village, along with local MLA E Sambashiva Rao. They also offered pooja and harati to the water at Jonnatali and Kolalamudi tanks and later addressed a public meeting arranged on the bund.
He administered pledge to public to conserve water. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Water is part of the ‘Panchabhootha’ and is also a major constituent of the human body. The construction of tanks made kings to flourish in the past and we should also not waste water. The Chief Minister proposed the Jalaharati programme to instill a habit of saying thanks to water, along with offering prayers for our well-being.
Minister Kamineni said that the use of water through lift irrigation schemes in the upper riparian states were the reason for us in not getting water in the projects up to now. As of now, the flood water is filling Jurala, which should later pass through the Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, Pulichintala to reach the Prakasam Barrage.
We should take the issue to the Central government about the illegal use of our quota of water by the upper riparian states. The Pattiseema project helped the Krishna and Guntur districts to get drinking water by pumping 100 tmc feet of water.”
MLA Sambasivarao said that more than 100 check dams were built under the Neeru Pragati program and they were all filled with water due to the recent rains. He said that the check dam constructed at a cost of Rs 14 lakhs on Darsi rivulet filled Jonnatali tank.
Later, the Minister laid the foundation stone to the primary health centre at Chinnaganjam, which was to be constructed at a budget of Rs 1.18 crore. He inaugurated the additional building block, OP and casualty block constructed at the Chirala Government hospital, along with local MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan and District Collector V Vinay Chand.
