Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant (SSTPP) of NTPC won the Safety Innovation Award for 2016 given by the Institute of Engineers (India).

Visakhapatnam: Simhadri Super Thermal Power Plant (SSTPP) of NTPC won the Safety Innovation Award for 2016 given by the Institute of Engineers (India).

Group General Manager of SSTPP Nava Kumar Sinha, along with assistant general manager (safety) Kishore Babu, received the award at a programme in New Delhi.

The SSTPP has registered zero accidents frm August 5, 2015 to till date by adopting several advanced and modern safety precautions.

The management has set up exclusive mechanism to ensure zero accidents in the plant by deploying Safety Taskforce teams. Special inspection drives were conducted to check and educate the workers on use of safety belts. Special inspection drives also conducted to check and educate the workers on use of flashback arrestors on gas cutting sets.

The management has also set up sharing of information against incidents took place in other plants and offering the comments of forum. All accidents and near-miss incidents are investigated and the remedial measures were recommended. Accident case studies are shown to the workers during safety training and making them aware of various accident causes and factors.

While receiving the award GGM Nava Kumar said that the achievement was the collective effort of all the employees, workers and officers of the plant.
