Tirupati: The Non-Teaching Employees Association of the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) appealed to the students to maintain restraint and keep away the anti-social elements from the varsity campus. A small dispute among students was projected as a violent issue which was unfortunate, said the president of the association PK Subramanyam and secretary G Sridhar.

- Leaders of students’ unions meet V-C; demand action against Registrar
The regular engineering students and dual degree students should behave like brothers, the association leaders said. They also asked the agitating students to condemn the allegations on the Registrar Prof M Devarajulu, who is working hard along with the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof A Damodaram in taking the University to reach many heights.
They also made an appeal to the students to protect reputation of the SVU. However, leaders of various students’ unions have met the V-C and discussed the developments with him. They asked the V-C to take action against the Registrar, who they alleged was responsible for the whole incident.
Meanwhile, former Union Minister Dr Chinta Mohan demanded the removal of all cases on engineering students of SVU and release those in custody immediately. He visited the SVU engineering college on Wednesday and met the Principal Prof Padmanabham to know the sequence of events that led to students arrest and closure of college. Later, speaking to the media, he said, it is unfortunate that students fought with each other for the sake of cricket ground.
He criticised the introduction of dual degree course in engineering by collecting lakhs of rupees as fees. The educational standards were so poor in the SKU, which is evident from the fact that no one was selected for civil services in recent years. Mohan also demanded the SVU officials to resume engineering classes from Thursday.
