Vijayawada: Former chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao said that the plans of Amaravati capital made by state government were not viable. Participating in a meeting organised by Green Soldiers at Rotary Club here on Thursday, he asked the government why it had made plans to construct a bigger capital at Krishna River by neglecting the facts. He wondered how the government would bring 10 lakh people in a span of five years as per plan.

“Nearly 30 years to 40 years is required to fill the capital with people,” he noted. He asked why the government made plans to construct capital nearby river.

“The government made several guidelines and acts to protect rivers,” he said and wondered how the plans were done violating them. “The government did not consider the recommendations of Sri Krishna Committee,” he added.

“Developed countries like America and Australia also constructed their capitals not in main cities,” he stated. IYR found fault with the government for violating norms in land acquisition process. “The policy which is being implemented for collecting lands against the wishes of farmers is not correct,” he opined.
