Rajamahendravaram: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu sought to advice the people to become part and parcel of nature and protect it. Participating in Jalasiriki Harathi and Godavari Nitya Harathi programmes at Pushkar Ghat, here on Thursday, he said that water was lifeline and without it nothing will happen.

Stating that the ‘Jalasiriki…’ programme has been taken up across 40 rivers in the state, he said that stopping of river pollution is the need of the hour. “Our endeavour is to make state drought-free. In line with it, we have pumped in Rs 13,000 crore to complete 28 irrigation projects within three months. Pattiseema is completed in nine months and Purushottapatnam Lift Irrigation Scheme is dedicated to the nation within six months,” he noted.
Naidu stressed on the need to increase ground water levels and added that as many as 50,000 check dams were constructed to tackle the issue. He termed Polavaram project as lifeline of the state and vowed to complete it as early as possible
“The Congress government included Polavaram project in the state bifurcation act but not tagged the merging of seven mandals of Telangana into Andhra Pradesh for the completion of Polavaram project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first Cabinet meeting issued an ordinance merging the seven mandals in Andhra Pradesh to complete the national project,” the Chief Minister recalled.
He maintained that Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi scheme was commenced for overall development of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts. “We are giving priority for organic cultivation and advised the farmers to reduce the usage of fertilizers and pesticides. Call 1100 and we are here to solve your problems,” he said.
Naidu assured that his government would strive to secure heritage tag to the city. Earlier, he inaugurated newly-constructed office buildings of municipal corporation, urban superintendent of police office and CID regional office.Home minister N Chinarajappa, finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, water resources minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, MP M Murali Mohan and others were present.
