Tirupati: The Chittoor Municipal Corporation (CMC) stands first among all civic bodies across the state in speedy clearance of people’s grievances and applications with the implementation of electronic office (e-Office) system. The CMC employees have been clearing files through online for the last three months.

Highlights:

  • CMC is the first among civic bodies to introduce e-Office
  • More than 14,000 files cleared by civic body in 3 months

The work speeded up in the CMC by upgrading connectivity, hardware and systems. Earlier, employees used to clear only 4 to 5 files in a day. Now, they are processing 3 to 4 files in an hour. Moreover, the CMC has been avoiding wastage of paper and related material which were used in clearing files manually.

The civic body is receiving all the grievances and applications from petitioners through online only. The Municipal Corporation has been providing services like transfer of ownership of the property, issuing property tax bills, birth and death certificates within 3 days to one week. Employees used to take 15 to 20 days for clearing files in manual method.

The employees are working promptly as status of files can be tracked through online. As soon as the CMC receives a file, a concerned employee should scan the applicant details and related documents and should be uploaded. Another advantage of e-Office is that officials can enter their remarks on a consent file through online.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner P Ravi is directly monitoring the files uploaded through online. “After processing files, we are intimating to the applicant through e-mail only.

At present, this is the practice being implemented by our staff,” Ravi added. Speaking to The Hans India, Chittoor Corporation Commissioner G Balasubramanyam stated that 14,250 files were cleared after e-office introduced. “We have cleared 97 per cent files through online and our target is to achieve 100 per cent,” he added.
