Amaravati: State government has signed tripartite agreement with Centre and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for the AP Drought Mitigation Project.

The IFAD will be providing Rs 500 crore for five years to improve incomes of 1,65,000 poor households and strengthen their resilience to drought in Prakasam and Rayalaseema districts. The state government has to match its share of Rs 500 crore as per agreement.

Training will be given to people of six drought-hit districts on technical issues to fight the drought conditions. The loan amount have to be repaid within 25 years. IFAD country programmer Rasha Omar, secretaries to state government Sameer Kumar Khare and B Raja Sekhar signed the agreement.
