Speaking at the occasion, Chandramohan Reddy said that adequate water had not reached Penna delta due to deficit rainfall in Karnataka and Maharashtra states. Still, there is a chance to store 146 tmc feet of water in Kandaleru and Somasila reservoirs in the district, he added.

“Karnataka government has not been releasing water from Almatti dam. Keeping in view the shortage of water, the state government had completed Pattiseema LI project within six months and rescued one lakh acres of crop with providing 8 tmc of water. Sufficient water would be supplied to the crops after inter-linking rivers’, said the agriculture minister.

Works of Sangam barrage which were taken up with a cost of Rs.150 cr would be completed soon, he added. He also said that state government had distributed Rs.1,900 cr as input subsidy to the farmers across the state.

Measures would be taken to support 1.60 lakh families with assistance of Rs.1, 040 crore from the International Fund for Agriculture Development, he added. Somireddy also informed that they would deposit Rs.3,600 cr into the accounts of farmers from September 10 as part of third phase loan waiver.

Municipal administration minister Dr.PNarayana informed that they would distribute funds to 89 lakh DWCRA women in third phase soon. He also said that government has been dispensing pensions of Rs.6,000 cr to 45 lakh families across the state. The minister said that they would complete Sangam and Penna barrage works by March/ June 2018. He also explained that about 15 lakh acres of lands in the state would be provided water for farming with the inter-linking of Godavari and Penna rivers.

Collector R.Mutyala Raju read out the Chief Minister’s message to the public. Further, APIIC Chairman P. Krishnaiah explained importance of Jalasiriprogramme. Penna delta Ayacut Chairman Y.Govardhan Reddy, Somasila Ayacut president SundaraRamireddy, E.Rammohan Reddy, Atmakur municipal chairperson R.Vanamma, RDO Bapi Reddy, JD of Agriculture Chandra Naik, BJP state spokesperson K.Anjaneya Reddy and others were present.
