Gang of highway robbers held

Nellore: The police on Friday nabbed four robbers, who were involved in highway robberies at Naidupet, Sullurupet and Doravarisatram and seized Rs 2.5 lakh cash, one gold ring, two motor cycles, one car and three mobile phones from them. The accused were identified as J Karthik (28), M Mohan (32), K Saravanan (30) and S Suresh (32).

Naidupet Circle Inspector M Rathaiah disclosed the case details to the media here on Friday. He said that the accused along with two others had committed robberies on the national highway. The accused had robbed Rs 1,900 cash, one sovereign of gold and a mobile phone at Netaji Nagar under Doravarisatram mandal from a fruit vendor while he was returning home on September 2015.

They robbed a motor cycle from a person at petrol bunk near Naidupet after attacking him with iron rods in November 2015. The accused attacked Shaik Chand Basha and robbed Rs 9 lakh cash from him and fled away from the scene at Doravarisatram mandal in July 2017. They also robbed a motor cycle from a person at Naidupet on the national highway in October 2016. Rathaiah said a hunt was launched to nab two other accused.

Naidupet police nabbed the accused during a routine vehicle checks on the national highway. On seeing the police, the accused had tried to flee away. The police chased them and apprehended the robbers. Naidupet SI M Ravi Naik, Doravarisatram SI Ch Koti Reddy, SI K Samson and other police personnel were present.
