Vijayawada: Dr Kamal Soi, member of National Road Safety Council, Government of India, threatened the state government with filing contempt of court petition if it failed to ensure installation of approved and certified speed limiting devices (SLD) in commercial vehicles within three weeks.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Soi alleged that though Supreme Court committee on road safety gave directives regarding fitment of speed governors and the AP transport department was not following them. He termed about 10,000 road deaths every year in AP, as government sponsored murders.

Soi said that as per National Crime Records Bureau report for 2015, Andhra Pradesh witnessed 24,258 road accidents. “While 29,439 sustained injuries, the deaths were reported at 8,297 during the year.
