Man kills wife, commits suicide

Vizianagaram: Suspecting the fidelity of his wife, a man stabbed her with repeatedly with a knife and later, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Srungavarapu Kota mandal in the district on Friday. Speaking to the media, Sub-inspector of Police K Naresh said that Ch Umadevi (35) was working as an art teacher in the Zilla Parishad High School where her husband Srinivas was a masonry worker. They have been living in Kottam village for the past few years.
He is poorly educated and used to beat his wife frequently suspecting her character. Fed up with her behaviour, she even lodged a police complaint against him. On the evening of Friday he stopped her while coming back from school on her colleague’s motorcycle and indiscriminately stabbed her and chopped her neck. She was seriously injured and died on the spot.
Later, fearing that he would be caught by the police and punished, he consumed poison and died. The couple have a baby girl Sai Surya Devi (8) and a son Jaswanth (4). A case has been registered and the bodies were sent to post-mortem.
