PERIOQUEST 2017, a two-day specialty programme of periodontists, was inaugurated here on Friday. The programme is being held under the aegis of department of periodontics, GITAM Dental College and Hospital.
Visakhapatnam: PERIOQUEST 2017, a two-day specialty programme of periodontists, was inaugurated here on Friday. The programme is being held under the aegis of department of periodontics, GITAM Dental College and Hospital. The speciality of periodontics deals with diseases of the gums and treatment and also with placement and management of implants. Three hundred delegates, including 100 faculty and 200 Post Graduate students from dental colleges in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are attending the programme.
The convention was addressed by four prominent speakers from Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Interactive sessions were conducted which included hands-on programme and demonstrations. Gum diseases can be a factor in the conditions related to heart, joints, skin and premature pregnancies. The presentations threw light on the most recent advances on these subjects.
Addressing the gathering, the Director, School of Law, GITAM University Prof Y Satyanarayana, emphasised about ethical practice and the importance of clinical record maintenance. He advised doctors to be aware of the Consumer Protection Act.
The Professor of Periodontics and Member, Dental Council of India G Vikram Reddy, explained the recent announcement of the DCI.
He said that the council had a made a provision for jobs for fresh Post Graduates by increasing the number of senior lecturers required by colleges. Principal of GITAM Dental College and Hospital K Gangadhara Prasad spoke about the interest of the GITAM management in encouraging such conventions in which students and teaching faculty are made aware of recent trends in the pathology and management of diseases. Organising chairman K Raja V Murthy and organising secretary KV Prabhakara Rao also addressed the gathering.
