AP to raise Rupees 3,000 crore in open market for irrigation projects

Amaravati: The Cabinet on Saturday cleared the decks for the Andhra Pradesh Water Resource Development Corporation (APWRDC) to raise borrowings to the tune of Rs 3,000 crore in the open market with low rates of interest for execution of irrigation projects. The amounts will be utilized for the projects to be executed by the APWRDC, said Minster for Information and Public Relations Kalva Srinivasulu at a media briefing.
It was proposed to introduce a Bill seeking to bring in Industrial Corridor Development Act, 2017 in the upcoming Assembly session. The proposed Act will make way for development of Chennai-Visakhapatnam Industrial Corridor, Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor and the other industrial corridors and nodes.
It was also decided to come to the aid of three ailing cooperative sugar factories in the state. The government will extend financial assistance to SV Cooperative Sugars near Tirupati in Chittoor district and CVR Cooperative Sugars at Anakapalli so as to help the managements clear dues to be paid to the growers for 15 crushing seasons, said the minister.
The government will extend financial aid in a similar manner to NVR and ADR cooperative sugars at Jampany to make way for payment of wages to employees pending for a long time.
The Cabinet has decided to entrust the works relating to a green fields airport project at Dagadarthi in Potti Sriramulu Nellore district to Messrs SPL Turbo Consortium. It is proposed to build the airport with Rs 368cr and an extent of 1,352 acres of land was notified for the project in the area.
The cabinet has also decided to purchase 837.20mw of power from private power producers- Messrs Suzlon Energy Limited and Messrs Access Ventures India Limited during 2017-18.
It was decided to bring in a piece of legislation in the place of ordnance for regulation and control of house rentals and resolve disputes between house owners and tenants in municipal and the other residential areas.
The Cabinet also decided to crack the whip on the bogus agriculture colleges close on the heels of a voice raised by Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan. It highlighted the need to protect the interests of students coming from recognized colleges in securing jobs by acting tough on the bogus colleges.
